The Marfa Maquette is a 3D printed stainless steel model of my larger cylindrical sculptures. The fabrication technology (SLS) uses powdered stainless steel and lasers to slowly build individual layers, each only .1mm thick, adding up to over 1200 layers. The resulting form creates a dynamic play of solid and void, as well as everchanging patterns of light and shadows. The material is raw, weighty, and a bit sparkly; it’s meant to be playful in hand, alluring to look at, and intriguing to look through.
The maquettes measure 1.75” diameter x 5” tall. Edition of 100.
