The Marfa Relic is a cylindrical variation of the Stackworks sculptures, comprised of 24 quarter-round sections. The sculpture rises thirty feet and is proposed to be sited on a local ranch in the Chihuahuan Desert landscape outside of Marfa in Far West Texas. The material is Corten steel, which naturally rusts to a richly textured brown patina. Both the cylindrical form and the material recall the local vernacular of rusting steel feed and fuel tanks, which can be seen scattered about the ranches and cattle stockyards from over the past century.
